The worst travelling experience of my life

??/??/2025

Travelling can be such a weird experience both magical and stressful, to me no matter how many airports I visit they always feel surreal with their overpriced food, abundance of strange stores (why do they always sell expensive jewerly?!) and complete lack of social rules (seriously you can do pretty much anything in an airport and nobody will care) and last year's summer I visited an airport thrice as surreal as usual and had the worst time of my life due to bad luck and professional incompetence

To add a bit of context July 2025 was the first time I travelled without my parents, I went to a summer camp in Canada for 3 weeks and it was hella fun! I'm probably gonna make a blog about it later so I'm not gonna go into too much detail about the really good time I had and instead focus on the horrible time I had on my way back, it's been a year since this happened so my memory is a bit hazy but I remember all the important details of my torment so I can pretty acurately share my suffering with y'all so that everytime you are annoyed about your plane not taking off you can remember me and feel a bit less alone in the "fucked over by the travelling industry" club

I woke up early in the morning at around 7:00 a.m. and I felt bittersweet knowing I had to go back home today, I had so much fun in my trip and would miss going out to do something fun every day with all the cool friends I met but all good things must come to an end and at least I could sleep in my own bed for tonight (or so I thought), I double checked that everything was packed in my luggage and I wasn't forgetting anything and after not noticing any of my possesions being left behind I said my goodbyes to this cozy room I would never see again and went to the common room after grabbing some breakfast from the cafeteria as instructed, I sat on one of the couches as I waited for the rest of the students to get here, I killed some time talking to one of my teachers who I really bonded with after he stuck with my friend group in an ammusement park and while we were chatting I noticed something, my suitcase wasn't locked, I had brought 2 padlocks and forgot them in my room, embarrased I ran back to my bedroom and grabbed the 2 forgotten locks before quickly returning to the common room, I was tired from running up to the 4th floor via the stairs and really embarrased about forgetting something so important but at least I remembered before we left so I'm not gonna say this was the beggining of the end but more of a bad omen or a warning of how much the rest of the day will suck, when I came back everyone had already arrived and we were just waiting for the bus that would take us to the airport, once the bus got there I calmly sat on a window seat put my headphones on and listened to some music during the trip because listening to dramatic music while looking out the window is better than drugs

So far nothing has gone terribly wrong yet, we check in our luggage and go to the deparure lounge, by this point it's around 2:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. (The airplane is supposed to depart at 4:30 p.m. and the flight lasted around 1 hour with 40 minutes meaning if this went right I would be at my home country today at around 7:00 pm.) I think? and I haven't eaten anything since breakfast so I was hungry as hell and started looking around for a fast food restaurant or a 7-Eleven or somewhere I could buy a cheap snack to satiate my hunger until I could eat a proper meal once I got home and was jumpscared by the absense of restaurant, what kind of airport doesn't have any restaurants?! but at the very least there was a Tim Hortons near, I've never a coffee guy but I got 2 croissaints which was better than nothing, maybe my hunger was starting to make me delirious but those were the best croissants I've ever tasted

Fast forward to once the plane actually gets here, I look for my seat and you can't even imagine how wide I smiled when I found out that I got a window seat!! (the best kind of seat), I sit down and wait for the plane to start up while listening to some tunes, 10 minutes pass and the plabes shows no signs of taking off, whatever I can wait, then 20 minutes and now I'm starting to get annoyed, not worried yet just pissed off because god dammit my time is valuable and I'm bored of waiting, now it's been 40 minutes since I've got on this plane and it's still comfortably parked on the ground and there are no signs of life from the pilot or staff and now I'm actually worried, what could be taking them so long? 10 minutes later (AKA 50 minutes since I entered the plane) the pilot vaguely announces that they're having some issues and we might have to wait a little longer, exactly what I wanted to hear! (with all due sarcasm) what pissed me off the most is that they didn't even tell us what the problem was or how much longer we would need to wait, now that I've been on this stupid plane for over an hour my butt hurts and I'm desperate to get out of here and apparently an evil genie hears my thoughts because the pilot tells us to get out of the plane because the plane is having problems, relunctanctly I walk back to the departure lounge which is even more uncomfortable than the plane at this point I don't care anymore about my dignity and like I said
